Hey friends! For my first blog post (well, first post as a whole adult, we won’t talk about my misguided youth blogs that have been scrubbed from the internet), I thought I would let you in on why I want to be your midwife for life, and what that means for me. I hope you love run on sentences!
In my career as a nurse and then a midwife I always had this longing and vision to provide personalized health care that not only took care of you when you were sick, but also helped you stay well. I envisioned being a provider that listened to her patients, and treated them as the most important member of their own health care team. Unfortunately working within the system never allowed me to do that completely. The biggest barrier to that was time and resources. There was never enough nurses or midwives to go around, working in the birth center was the closest I got to providing that individualized care, but even then I still had to carefully allocate my time.
In independent practice I am able to spend as much time as you need providing you the care that you deserve! We can deep dive into what is important to you, and you get the benefit of my experience and knowledge to light the path! I’ve seen so many people lament that when their pregnancy and postpartum time is over that they won’t be able to have midwifery care anymore, but I think everyone deserves a midwife, even if you’ve never had a baby! Midwives are “with women”, that’s what our name means, and while I hope to practice beyond a gender binary, I am here to let you know that I take the “with women” to heart. I’m with you wherever you are on your journey!
